Photo Friday -- alone

Photo Friday's theme this week is Alone.

October is an excellent time to visit the beach, provided your beach is in the northern half of the northern hemisphere. You can be pretty much alone there.

Photo Friday -- sistered

Photo Friday's theme this week is Sister.

When you add extra boards to strengthen, say, a door frame, you have sistered the original supports.

Photo Friday -- Best of 2006

PhotoFriday's theme this week is Best of 2006.

This choice was really hard for me. I took more pics in 2006 than I took in all the previous years of my life combined, I think, and I'm happy with lots of them. I wished I could choose my Best Close-Up of a Cabbage, and my Best Zoo Animal, and my Best Still Life. Best Un-Altered Landscape. Best State-Fair Critter. Best Museum Object.

As I enjoyed messing with Photoshop Elements as much as I enjoyed taking pictures, I'm choosing this shot of the Cloud Gate in Chicago's Millenium Park.

PhotoFriday -- innocence

PhotoFriday's challenge this week is Innocence.

I couldn't have asked for a better topic to follow up my image for last week's Destruction theme.

Here is the perpetrator of last week's destruction.

PhotoFriday -- destruction

PhotoFriday's theme this week is destruction. It was easy to find examples of this theme in our house.

First, this cute little bear belonged to someone's baby. The baby outgrew the bear, and the bear found its way to a thrift store. Then it belonged to my dog.

Tragically for the bear, it contained a fatally interesting squeaker.......

PhotoFriday Four

PhotoFriday's challenge this week is Four.

Like lots of people, I'm finding that my pics have more odd-numbered things than fours.....

I'm not much into symmetry.

For me, the exuberant curves, leaves, and blobs work together to rescue this piece from the constriction of perfect four-cornered replication.

self-portrait as photographer

.

Photo Friday's theme this week is "portrait."

Unintentional self-portrait, Thorne room, Chicago Art Institute.

The photographer is always present in a photograph, sometimes more visibly than others.

Click on the pic for a full-size version.

(While we're on the topic of portraits, check out my favorite portrait in the Art Institute. Love his comb-over mohawk.)

common

Photo Friday posts a new theme each week. This week's theme is "common"..... From the gardens of Millenium Park, a coneflower.

I love my camera!!! I love that it can take a close-up this sharp (click to see the big version!), with no extra equipment, and then turn around (or zoom out, rather), and take a good pic of something far away.
