July 17

.

I actually planted this daylily.  It's in with the old-fashioned ones, and is later.  I'm glad to still have some flowers blooming.

I've never had luck with lilies. Wish I did -- especially if they were as lovely as this!

Have you tried daylilies, or "regular" lilies?

Daylilies are pretty easy. I've never tried to grow the other kind (which come from bulbs.

Daylilies are the ones with long (1"x18"?) sort of grass-like leaves that all start at ground level. The other kind of lilies grow (from their bulbs) on tall stems, with leaves that are much shorter than daylily leaves coming out of the stem, rather than from the ground.

Daylily flowers grow on long stems, starting at the ground. There are no leaves on the stems. There are several buds, on a stem, and only one of them blooms on a given day. (The blooms only last for a day, hence "daylily").

"Regular" lilies have several buds on the top of their leafy stems, and several may be in bloom at once.

Easter lilies are "regular" lilies -- and are, apparently, poisonous to cats....
