In the "they didn't have this in the grocery when I was growing up" department.
I don't know if there were any eggplants at all, but I'd bet a good chunk of the farm that there weren't all these different kinds of eggplant.
The first time I was ever aware of seeing these, I didn't even recognize them as eggplant. A couple of years ago a nice man standing next to me at the farmers' market was crowing about finding them. He was very pleased and excited, because they are so good in Thai curry (he told me). Aren't they pretty?
And now you can get them in the supermarket.
I hope that's progress............
