Looking out my window, on the morning of August 12. Another big sailing boat.
Walking down Michigan Ave toward the bridge hotel. Looking north (and a little east).
Walking toward the Field Museum, through the south end of the set of parks. Looking north.
That brick building, red with lighter top, is the bridge hotel.
Walking east on the bridge over the commuter railroad tracks. Looking north.
On that same bridge, looking south. That sort of saucer-shaped thing you see near the bottom, between the light post and the tallest blue building is Soldier Field, where the Chicago Bears play American football.
You can see Soldier Field, again, and the big white building to its left is the Field Museum.
We are on the grounds of the Field Museum now, enjoying the plants and the view before we go in.
Isn't this a great combination of colors/shapes/textures? Love it.
Fancy red-edged hen & chicks.
Fancy curly-leafed begonia.
Look at the edge!
Another excellent planter, with the Chicago skyline. Looking north.
Such thoughtful combinations of plants! Up/down, bigger/smaller, round/spiky, light/dark...........
Here's a zoomed in look at the horizon on the right, above. Navy Pier. I had thought I might go there. I'm told there is interesting stained glass.... But I didn't make it there. Maybe next time.
Going up the steps toward the Field Museum.
Admiring the Chicago flag. I listened to a TED talk about city/state flag design, some time ago. The Chicago flag was one of the good examples. I didn't remember seeing it before, when I listened to the talk. I'd forgotten about Chicago's flag until we got to Chicago, and saw the flag everywhere.....
There's an excellent view of Chicago from the top of the Field Museum steps. It's too bad that totem pole (with the wings on top) is a one-sided object, given the numbers of people who will see it from this side.....
Here's a zoomed in look at Lake Shore Drive (lower right quadrant, above), which is the Really Big road you have to cross if you are walking from Michigan Ave east to the lake.
And now, let's go into the museum!
