yellow, and purply black

This looks like something different from the above.  I wonder just how many kinds of "black-eyed Susans" there are in the park........  I'm guessing at least four.  Short ones with more yellow stuff in the centers.  Short ones with centers like the ones below.  Tall ones with droopy petals.  Tall ones with stiffer petals........




When I was nearly home, I saw this on the sidewalk.  I googled up big black beetle Michigan, but nothing looked quite like this.  I don't know if the dimples in the thorax are damage, or if they are supposed to be there.  The other images I saw that were the closest to this had a much wider head, and different antennae.

This was really big (for Michigan!).  At least an inch and a half, if I remember correctly.

These black eyed Susans are my favorites. I have tons growing in the yard and am considering dividing them so they grow in back, too! They make me happy!
