September 5 -- fungi, flowers, food

.

Mushrooms.

Really big mushrooms!  That's my better half's size 11 shoe.

A closer look.

A closer look at the less-open one in the top image in this post, with the even less-open one under it.

Walking to the farmers' market.  A very  happy bunch of impatiens.  This may be the tallest impatiens I've ever seen.  Over 2' tall.

At the market.  Zinnias, mostly.

Snapdragons and sunflowers.

Chrysanthemums.  These were big, for potted flowers.  Around 2' tall, I think.

Breakfast!  It's carrot cake month at Zingerman's Bakehouse.  Mmmmmmmmmmm.  You have to like nuts, though.  It's packed with them.  I don't like regular frosting, but this is cream-cheese frosting.  Mmmmmm!

Bostok.  Almond flavored, with a kick of citrus.  Mmmmmmm.

Toni's Come Undone -- sourdough bread, with really really good chocolate chunks all through it.  Mmmmmm.

Later.  Running errands.  Sculpture in front of the Pittsfield branch of the library.

Thinking about shiny reflective sculpture -- it does give objects another dimension, when they interact with their environment by reflecting it.....  It's what we love about the Mirroir in Bordeaux, it's what we love about the Bean in Chicago, and it makes this much more modest piece more interesting, too.

We visited St. Louis many years ago, and had what may be the most spectacular hotel-room view we'll ever get.  We had hip-to-tall-ceiling windows on two sides, and we looked right at the Mississippi -- right at the Gateway Arch.  Which is an extremely interesting object, well worth a visit in its own right.  Did I mention that it, too, is shiny and reflective?  (As well as seriously immensely Large!)  Watching the Arch change in different light, during the day, or from a sunny day to a cloudy day ... that was one fabulous view.

Hooray for public art!
