Peony. I think this may be Festivus Maximus -- one of my faves. It smells good......
Chives in the periwinkle. And that thing in the upper left is probably a walnut tree, and I should get it out of there.

we had blue skies on May 1
.
Blue skies, and interesting clouds, on May 1.
And the moon. See it in the upper right quadrant?
A closer crop.

What did Hubble see on your birthday?
.
Click through for the opportunity to find out what the Hubble space telescope saw on your birthday. :-)
Mine was boring, alas. This one is from my Aunt Jane's birthday.

Galaxy NGC 1512
The core of the barred
spiral galaxy NGC 1512 is unique for its stunning 2,400-light-year-wide
circle of infant star clusters, called a "circumnuclear" starburst ring.
Starbursts are episodes of vigorous star formation.

still writing postcards
.
Still walking outside (distanced!) essentially every day.
Still writing get-out-the-vote postcards with PostcardsToVoters.org.
I am writing now for Christy Smith in California, who is running for Katie Hill's seat.

yesterday's sky
.
Yesterday's sky, as we walked in the late afternoon.
This is a color photo. There's a little bit of blue in the lower right corner.

airplane on a blue-sky day
.
This is one of those times when a camera just doesn't work like the human eye. Our eyes' ability to switch focus from far to farther is not something a phone camera can do.
It was the plane, adding jet-trail to the blue sky and clouds that caught my eye. The trail is clearly visible to me at the right of this next image, but I can't see the plane at all.
Here's a closer crop of the left end of the jet trail that plane was leaving on the blue.
Closer yet. In this close crop, the plane is there, though it's a blob (my bare eyes could see the plane much more clearly than this).

walking home from campus
.
Burton Tower, home of the University of Michigan's older carillon. (With Hill Auditorium in the bottom right corner.)
Walking west through West Park.
Turning back east to look at the pond.
The first lisianthus I've seen growing in Michigan.

Hooray for sunny days in the dead of winter!
We've seen this sign before, but not with inflatable penguins.
A closer look at the penguinos.
One more look at the sky.

My sister sent this nice orange bouquet to brighten our December days. Thank you! :-)
The neighborhood rock-painter's work.
Bits of blue sky.

Strange texture in/on this cloud.
A closer look. It seems to be perforated, over and over....
More clouds.
I pick up trash when I walk. I do not pick up cigarette butts. There are just too many of them.
I do pick up cigarette boxes. This is the first time I've picked up a box that had cigarettes in it. I am happy that no one will smoke these, and that no one will toss these 10 butts on the ground after smoking them.

Excellent clouds on Dec. 18, 2018. We thought this one was like looking up at the bottom of a mushroom. Or a jellyfish.
Broader view, same clouds on right.
Moss on top of a wall.
Little round clump of moss on a wall. This is the original shot, so you can get an idea of the scale.
Cropped.
Cropped again. I think these are fruiting bodies, or whatever you call it for moss (different from other sorts of plants? Do mosses have true flowers? I can't remember but I kind of think not....).
More moss, different wall.
More clouds, with jet trails.
The neighborhood rock-painter was still at work, in mid-December.
Fairy Lane assemblage.
Dwarf knight, with bunnies. And a giraffe and a gnome.
Maple leaf.
Sunset.
