our first glimpse of the sun in days

.

This was our first glimpse of the sun for days and days.

Unfortunately, it clouded right back over, for yet another gray day.

hooray for sunshine in winter time

.

These pics were taken on Jan 6.

Hooray for blue skies and sunshine when it's January out!

Random information, as seen on a library bookshelf.

Paper flowers, chain mail, beadwork, knife making, stained glass..........  Hooray for libraries!

winter sunrise

.

I like the way the tire tracks reflect the light.

Always nice to see the sun in the depth of winter.

November 13, 2018

.

7:08 am.

8:00 am.

I got dropped downtown to do some business with the post office.  I had to mail tax returns for the NGO I work with, and I needed stamps and postcards for more get-out-the-vote activities.

Walking home.  Snow on asters.  I saw several snowy chrysanthemums which were much sadder than this aster.

Snowy, but not dead yet.............

Crab apples in West Park.

Closer.  Robin feast!

There are a bunch of big crab apple trees in the park.

Snowy ravine between our neighborhood and Huron street.

Japanese maple.

Tulip tree.  Love this orangey brown.

Closer crop of the above.

Yay, we're back to blue flowers.  I would certainly rather have blue flowers on my get-out-the-vote postcards than red ones!

April 15, 2018

.

I would say this was the nastiest morning we had this winter.  It doesn't look that bad, but this is freezing rain.

Ice on the shrubs.

Later in the day it turned to rain, and in the afternoon it seemed safe to walk (no ice on the pavement).

There were pieces of fallen ice everywhere.  They look like plastic (reflective).  There was not as much trash to pick up as it seemed.

This is a pretty big piece of ice (at least an inch wide).  We can see something of the shape of the branch it formed on.

Reflections on a puddle.

March 6, 2018

.

I don't do much sewing these days, but I do still do some mending.  Ripped out jacket pocket.

This coat is a darkish olive green.  Why the phone camera decided to make it look light tan I do not know.

Winter night in Tree Town.

March 4, 2018

.

In early spring it is common to see maple trees dripping sap.

I don't remember ever seeing maple-sap icicles before March 4,2018.

Icicle at sunset.

Mother Nature's vignette near the ground.  Ice, leaves, incipient maple flowers. The sunset pics are exposed for the sky, so they make the ground look too dark.  This is the way the ground looked, "amount of light" wise.

Another maple-sap icicle.
