This guy is one of those ball-and-string toys. His head swings off, connected by his body by the string, and you're supposed to swing it up and catch it on his peg neck. He is one of my earlier thrift shop purchases, chosen for his face and form rather than his function. I like his teeny tiny red mouth.

He does, indeed.
My brother had one of these growing up, minus the face. The "body" was in a 't' shape, with the point on top, 2 round cups on each of the other 3 ends, successively smaller. I was never very good at it, but I remember seeing some people do fancy things with it, hopping from side to side and end to end, akin to fancy yo-yo tricks.
I've never seen anyone do fancy tricks with a toy of this type. I guess people can imagine fancy tricks to do with just about anything, so it's not a surprise that something like this would inspire creativity.
