heading up north

In Michigan, when you go north, you go "up north." This can mean either the northern part of the lower peninsula, or any part of the upper peninsula. Midland, Michigan, probably doesn't count as "up north," really, as it is sort of mid-Michigan, but it is north of here by about two hours.

I like color. These "on the road" images seem much more interesting to me when the gray is pushed into yellow and chartreuse. I like that hard yellow line between the green and the blue.

Most of nature's reds and brilliant golds are gone. It's time to appreciate the myriad tans and browns, the shapes of the bones of plants, and the blue blue of the sky.
