garage, redux

In 1947, some idiot (or cheap greedy ... jerk) built a garage with a flat roof. I don't suppose that flat roofs are really a good idea *anywhere*, and in a snowy climate? NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

So we are replacing the garage.

Naturally, codes have changed over the years. One wonders about the code that allowed -- maybe still allows? -- a flat roof in our climate? I find it hard not to be very cynical about the code.......................

In any case, we couldn't build on the slab as it was (nevermind that the slab was NOT what failed, after 55 years!). We had to have excavation all around (and under, as it turned out) the edge of the slab, and more concrete had to be added.......

The work is being done by a series of crews of young men. We believe the same group did the demolition and excavation. (We were not home when the demolition occurred, though we saw who brought the equipment.....)

The excavators brought a supervisor.

He kept a close eye on everything.

He kept an eye on the guy with the shovel.

He kept an eye on the heavy machinery.

There were times when he doubted it would all be right, in the end.

It seems that the crew finally lived up to his hopes, and the work was neat and complete.
