Happy Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day, something red for you.

We had our first real snow of the season yesterday. It's hard to say how much we got, as it was/is very windy. In places, the snow was over a foot deep on the driveway, and in other places, less than 3".

It was far too cold and windy for the snow to stick to anything, so the whole effect isn't as breathtaking as when the snow is deep on every twig. It's amazing in its own way, though -- so white. There are sparkles here and there, as the sun catches a snow crystal. These are especially noticeable in the air, as the snow blows around.

I love winter.

When I opened the blind in the living room this morning, this guy was right outside the window. I was surprised that he didn't move (poor little one pretty chilly, I bet!), and even more surprised that he was still there when I got back with the camera. I was less than 6' from him.

Cardinals are very skittish (because that bright color makes them so visible, I bet). I don't know if I will ever again get this close.
