The Toledo Zoo's aquarium is another place to escape chilly winds.
Of all the things I've tried to photograph, fish in aquariums have consistently been the hardest to capture. The odd light, the glass, the water....... Unless they are very still indeed, I can't get decent images.
Love the way this guy has shadowy vertical stripes, and irridescent horizontal ones....
My id-capture plan completely fell apart in the aquarium building. I have no idea who any of these guys are, aside from the spotted rays.... They were the easiest to photograph. Perfectly still, and a nice contrasty pattern for the camera to focus on.
There were a lot of different varieties of fish in this bulgy-forehead shape. This is a good-sized fish for a small aquarium -- 10 or 12 inches long.
Given the size of the gold fish above, you can tell this gray fish is a pretty big fish.
Something about this one looks really primitive to me. Huge scales, which were salmon pink around the edges farther back on the fish (only blurry images captured, alas). Isn't the texture on its head interesting? Looks metalic..........

Its head looks like mokume, the Japanese metalworking technique.
Is that the one where they fold two different metals, and pound, and fold, and pound? It does look like that.
(Off too work, no time to google it up! :-) )
