breakfast at our house

Breakfast used to be the one time of day I wished I had a whole bunch of dogs.

I gave my three dogs each a big milkbone for breakfast, and I loved the way they lined up in order to get their milkbones. I imagined it would be fun to have a whole bunch of dogs, all lined up, taking their milkbones in turn.....

Now I only have two dogs, and breakfast takes significantly more time and effort.

Due to Buzz's oral surgery, he is eating watered-down kibble. Ok. Measure kibble and add water. (This, already, takes longer than handing out milkbones!) Get out canned food, and a plate, and a spoon. Gather his pills (amoxy, pred, tramadol, this morning). Oh yeah, Wilbur. Get half a milkbone for Burt and his hydroxyzine, and a small milkbone for after his big milkbone is gone.

I think that's all the prep.

Scoop out a bit of canned food onto the plate, and artfully insert Buzz's pills.

Feed him the "meatball" with the pills, then immediately give him the kibble soup.

Pill Burt the old-fashioned way (stuff it down his throat), then give him the half of a big milkbone.

Wash hands.

Give Burt the small milkbone. Put away remaining canned food.

Whew. More than 15 minutes.

At least putting Buzz's pills in canned food eliminates the rubber gloves.... I can tip one leukeran out onto something that will be thrown away (a piece of cereal box plastic liner, maybe), and pick the leukeran up with a piece of canned food. I don't touch the leukeran, and I don't have to wash the rubber gloves.......
