It is not hard to appreciate many of these objects for the amazing technical strength they display.

Making wood (or stone, or paint) look just like cloth...........





I even like the texture added by the wood worms.....

This piece was a bit disconcerting -- despite the level of detail you see, there were no pupils in the eyes. We decided they would have been painted (but I still wonder why there wasn't at least a fine line defining them in the wood....).





I suspect the piece above might have looked more like this, originally.....
