Feb 10 -- museum of natural history

.

Elk and moose, outside the museum.

These enormous museums are so tantalizing -- you get a taste, in one day, but can't begin to see everything..........

Lots of bugs. Lots of life-size models of things (including my whale!). I had no idea giant squid were *quite* so giant, nor that jelly fish came in such enormous sizes!

Lots of diaramas.

Natural wonders. How can people chop down something that has lived this long, for anything other than the most catastrophic and critical of reasons? (as always, click on a pic for a larger version)

Much in the way of art and artifacts!

Did you know that anyone had ever sewed large pieces of wood together? I didn't, until I saw this display......

Three faces.

In order to facilitate chronological traverse of these NYC posts, a link to the next one is here.
