Feb 14 -- en route to.....

.

On our way to.....

Where else, the airport!

Note extreme difference between new terminal at DTW and the Feb. 13 shots of Laguardia....

Cincinnati. I love it when the pilots tell us where we are............

Downtown, close up. When my daughter was 5, we went to Cincinnati for a bridge tournament. Our hotel was one of those tall buildings you see, and our view was of the river. One day she and I walked across one of those bridges to Kentucky -- maybe the one between the two stadia..... She thought it was very cool that you could walk to another state!

And now for something completely different -- wow, eh? You can almost hear those tectonic plates rumble........

The CorgiAid Polar Bear Picnic, just a few weeks ago on Jan. 27, was held in Kingsport, TN.

Might this be Kingsport? I wonder. Looking south........ (as always, click on a pic to see a bigger version)

UPDATE, March 7: my mom spotted that V-shaped body of water on the left in the pic below. It's very distinctive. We checked google maps for it, just east of Kingsport, and there it was. I am sure this is Kingsport. Isn't that cool? To have visited up close and personal in the end of January, and then to fly so close in mid-February *and* get this clear a pic? Good eye, Mom!

Do you remember this red earth from last February?

Remember this skyline?

New sign, familiar venue..........

In order to facilitate chronological traverse of these Charlotte posts, a link to the next one is here.

VERY COOL pictures from the airplane. I was able to see the Great Lakes in ice on our flight, but then it got dark and of course it was dark our entire (red-eye) flight to New York.

Where was the "tectonic plate" picture taken?

Thanks! It's very hit-or-miss, taking pics from airplanes, I find. The camera surely does not know what to do with haze....... (You'd think I'd figure out how to set the focus on infinity, wouldn't you.... Sigh.)

I did use the Photoshop Elements "auto smart-fix" option on some of the pics. It can be helpful "getting rid of haze." Sometimes.

It's an interesting question, where the "tectonic plate" pic was taken.
(Won't it be cool when cameras all have gps and just KNOW where the pic was taken?)

I note that google maps (my favorite!!) now has a "terrain" option.

I'm thinking even more that pic I thought was Kingsport really was....

The terrain map shows a ridge thingy coming right up on Kingsport, just as the pic shows....
(scroll in one more notch to see Kingsport, which is just a little west of the Bristol, TN, you see on the map above).

Given that I know how close we were to Cincinnati, and that we were headed for Charlotte, I'll bet the pic of the ridges was taken just west and north of
Kingsport.......... If that is Kingsport, we are looking southwest at it.
