It seems that our bud is not going to successfully reproduce. All its wingy bits look like this.
Never fear. The tree will reproduce verrrrry successfully. These are on the same branch as our bud. See the little straggledy petals draped over the incipient seeds?
Can you believe that just a couple of weeks ago there were no leaves on this tree? Mama Nature doesn't fool around. When she's ready for things to grow, they *grow*!
