August 14

.

I returned a book to the library, and then walked the few blocks to work.

The brand-new parking lot across from the library is getting landscaped. I believe the same people who take care of that wonderfully planted lot bounded by Huron, First, Washington, and Ashley will be taking care of this lot, so I look forward to it being very nice.

You can see they've brought in some boulders, and have planted trees (with green water bags around their little trunks).

Turning 180, and looking the other way (east) on William.

You learn something every day -- I would have said that it was flat, between Fifth Avenue (the library is on Fifth) and State Street to the east. Clearly not -- look at the line of fancy globular streetlights.....

I have seen these white waxy-looking berries before, but have never looked at them....

I'm going to try to get a better pic than this next one, but I thought it was so interesting that I put it up anyway. Everything from flowers to big berries, all at once?

Chicory. Don't the stamens look like bugle beads?
