One of my co-workers departed last week, to go teach high school in Harlem.
Here's the way we wished him well.
Brownies.
Three kinds of ice cream, and more kinds of doughnuts.
I hadn't realized that people were going to combine doughnuts and ice cream (clearly I have no imagination at all, where food is concerned.....).
This is the beginning of a new dessert sensation. Maple-glazed doughnut, cherry ice cream.
And here is the embellished finish. The above, plus brownie bits and hot fudge sauce.
I'm told the combination of maple-glazed doughnut and cherry ice cream was very good.
The above, finished.
Cherry, mint chocolate chip, and "bumpy road" ice cream, on brownie, garnished with doughnut with sprinkles.
Some people are less adventurous.
Chocolate doughnut with sprinkles, bumpy road ice cream, hot fudge sauce.
I was even less adventurous. I am not a doughnut person. I tried a bit of the maple-glazed (by itself), as I'd never had it. Not bad; still a doughnut.
I boringly put mint chip on my brownie, and then later had a taste of the cherry ice cream. It was good, but I like fruit things better without chocolate, and vice versa.
Someone asked me if this is the way we always wish someone well when they leave.
Um. No. We'd never done it before.
The truth is -- no one ever leaves. So we don't have a tradition. This would be a good tradition, but I hope the comfort level we enjoy at work doesn't change and result in people leaving at a more rapid clip!
Good luck, Alex, in your future endeavors. Keep in touch!

I hope Baskin Robbins is paying attention here... all new 32 flavors right here at this going away party!
If I was 'going away', and you fed me this stuff, I would not go away.
:-)
Alas, Alex has a Higher Purpose in mind, and is off to help kids learn math.
:-)
As for BR, you're right, they should hire my colleagues to consult on new flavors. :-)
