We vote at our middle school. When our daughter was there, the music department was excellent. She sang, and played trumpet, and things were set up so that kids who stayed on top of things and did well with their instruments could be in band, orchestra, *and* choir, in 8th grade.
The orchestra teacher was much loved and had been at Slauson for decades. We didn't know until Nov. 4 that the music wing had been named for him. Even though our daughter only had him one day a week for part of one year eight years ago(!!), he recognizes us when we cross paths at the grocery, and inquires as to how she is doing........
Continuing my election-day red/white/blue theme (with a little yellow) -- maple near the school, on the way to the car after voting.
Rose by a downtown parking lot.
Russian sage, I believe.
Most of the leaves have fallen, between the 4th and today. We've had the first snow (still on our family room roof; melted on the ground). There will still be some excellent color, here and there, but the heart of the fall is past.
