I should probably have a new category for ranting...............
I would like to say that I really really really hate Microsoft Word. I spent too much time this afternoon trying to organize the printing of envelopes for holiday letters.
Word 2007 ASKS you (*ASKS* YOU!!!) what font and size you want for both return addresses and mailing addresses. It does seem to pay attention to the font, but the size????????????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I hate when programs won't offer me a way to do what I want to do, but when they OFFER AND THEN WON'T DO IT......................... MUCH WORSE!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!)
And ... will someone please tell me why it INSISTS on printing the "to" address practically underneath the "from" address???????????????????
When I tried to move it over, it thought it appropriate to put all the address lines but the first mashed up against the right edge of the envelope.
For THIS? For **THIS** Bill Gates has more money than god?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I'd like to see him take this "helpful" software, and, to quote Dick Cavett, fold it five ways and put it where the moon don't shine. (Where *is* Dick Cavett, anyway? I miss him.)
I also hate our printer. Which slimed every envelope but three. I mean, ok, it's old and all (like -- 3 years?), but still.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I mean -- I'm supposed to have a certain facility with software, and THIS is what I settle for??????
(Addresses tastefully blurred, smears left pristine. As it were.)
And finally, I hate rodents-in-my-house. Passionately.
I left the window in the sewing room open until about an hour ago, despite the fact that it is cold outside (the snow did not melt today, that's how cold).
I decided to close the window before it got dark.
Naturally the squirrel woke up about a half an hour later, and then ran all around trying to get out.
Very audibly.
Feh.
Perhaps tomorrow we'll open the window before we go to work, and will leave it open all day until we get home at 5:30 or so, and maybe the damned thing will GO OUT.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Sigh.
At least Photoshop Elements cooperated and my holiday pic is ready to go to the printers......................................
Perhaps I'll go hoist some iron. Working out does not make me feel better (as all the exercise-lovers claim), not unless I am pretty fraught. I am fairly well annoyed at present with all of the above, so maybe I'll feel better.
Yeh right.
Sigh.
Just sign me -- The Towering Inferno of Rage.

I learned about this computer stuff on Word Perfect 1.1. It was a DOS program because Windows was not yet born. To this day, I cannot get Word to do the things Word Perfect will do. I hate it when I create a signature line, do a return and Word makes a line all the way across the page. I hate not being able to go behind the words and see the codes for what I've done, and I hate that Word embeds codes so you cannot easily copy and paste to another word processing program. Yep -- Word is worthy of our ire.
Word has many problems. And the newest incarnation is even worse.
But having to use it A LOT I find that I have the best formatting results by creating tables for everything and messing with the size of the rows and columns. I often have to put tables within tables.
Whatever works . . .
Whatever works, indeed.
I can remember printing off the holiday envelopes (which involves a mail merge, of course), with Word, TOTALLY without problems.
Exactly once.
Every other time there has been some amount of wrestling.
And it is SO frustrating that I can't call microsoft up and yell at them.
When I was telling DH about it yesterday evening, it occurred to us that I didn't try telling it I had bigger envelopes..... Don't know if it would have put the TO
in a more reasonable place.
I remember being able to put everything just where I wanted it AND put dingbat snowflakes on, just where I wanted them, too!
The good old days.................
Of course that predated Word...........
!!!
Feh.
It really does totally offend me that anyone makes billions off this crap.
At least he seems to use part of it to help reasonable causes.
