walking to work, Nov. 18

.

On Tuesday morning I got dropped at the post office so I could walk across the street and collect some books on reserve at the library. (It's a busy street; you can't just stop in front of the library, though some people do...........)

I picked up my books, and then took pics of the leaves in front of the library.

The wine-red leaf is from the fancy redbuds, and I think the green is hydrangea.

Redbud.

Bradford pear.

I am not all that fond of red leaves in the summer, but these little red-leaved redbud trees are growing on me. I am amazed at all the colors that are showing up in their leaves in the autumn. Both of these are redbud leaves.

And here is another.

Same image as above, poster edged.

Barberry. Love the color, love the thorns (in pics, NOT in the yard where I will get stabbed, sooner or later), wish it were in better focus. These windy days are hard on photographers.......

Let's try poster edging.

Hmmm. Really like what this does for the thorns, but for the fuzzy leaves, not so much.

It pays to look up -- I hadn't realized the moon was out.

Bradford pear.

Bare tree against stone.

I bought this pot of narcissus, all chilled and ready to go, several years ago. Each spring they've died back, and each fall they've bravely grown again.

They won't bloom without being chilled, and last spring I remembered to take them home to sit in the garage. I happened to notice they were growing, so I brought them back to work. Wonder if they'll bloom...........

I just saw the coolest thing to do with paperwhites to keep them from falling over as they grow...

Wow. An excellent idea!

This is just a cheap plastic pot I bought on sale, and they come back year after year on nothing but water.... That is, the *leaves* come back......

This year is the first time they've been outside during dormancy. It was cold for the last few weeks they were in the garage. Not sure if that's enough (or if they are robust enough) to bloom again.......
