I went to a stamp show. One vendor had bins of uncancelled US stamps, at face value.
I got lots.
Isn't this fun?
I was tempted to not put names on, as the intended recipient could be divined from the stamps, but I wanted their arrival to be a surprise..........

There are so many cool new stamps, too. Love the new Eames ones..... The old ones are cool in a different way. Wondering how on earth anyone could see to work so small, and then, what tools they had to do the eensy engraving........

My cousins started me collecting stamps when I was little and I've been hooked ever since. I have changed what I wanted to collect many times as I find all stamps fun to look at! I've never been to a stamp show....sounds dangerous!:)
I think a stamp show could be very dangerous indeed! :-)
I limited myself to the uncancelled US this time -- at least if I don't use them in an art project, they are good for postage! :-)
Though there were two stamps in the bin that were foreign. After spending my time looking at (what seemed like!) all the stamps in the bin, I gave the foreign ones to the dealer as they didn't belong in that bin, but he gave them to me. I will blog them -- one is Greek and one is , um, Hungarian, if my memory is working. The Hungarian one is a train, and the colors are blue and orange, which you know I have to like.
If you want to give me your snail address, I'll send you an envelope like the ones in this post......

Love stamps! My grandfather was a serious collector, and I am the person who holds the queue while deliberating on the current choices at the P.O.
My European friends always send me mail garnered with beautiful stamps and I have kept most of the envelopes, quite a collection!
Francoise, I love that you kept the envelopes - the handwriting is a special as the stamps. (And the cancellations....)
When we were in Alaska last year, I mailed home a postcard each day, which was of where we had been, with a description I'd written. The best cancellation was from Fairbanks.....
I have started shopping for stamps at usps.com
They have allllllll the stamps (including some that have the previous postage amount), and I can take as long as I like, without feeling bad for holding up the line. And it's $1 shipping, even if you get a lot...........
That's where I got the excellent Denali stamps (not sure what they were supposed to be for but they had a big denomination like 92 cents or something) that I used when I mailed Alaska pictures to my family..... :-)
Great find -- you have to skip (at least inside) when you come across something like these stamps.
I loooove looking through those bins.
And those old 2s and 3s were not hard to find -- there were lots in the bin............
I love finding them, and I love looking back through them once I get home, and I love using them......
