I decided to add a scarf, and see if I could make the ends out of "flexi-prims" so they could blow in the wind.
I used a pair of toruses (tori?) for the around-the-neck part, and two cylinders (which I marked as "flexible") for the ends. Then two smaller tori for the knot.
Here, I am wearing the whole shebang, and shifting so you can see my scarf move. Moving is good -- when I stay still, the ends gracefully hang down into my bottom snowball. Tee hee. One day perhaps I'll make them shorter, but once I had the whole thing linked together, I was sure I didn't know how to mess with any of it.
Some other day!

If I shift my posture very much, my legs and arms stick out, and when I fly (my body horizontal), the snowman hangs straight down (except for the scarf ends!), so my body is all sticking out. Good thing I'm wearing my white longjohns underneath!
At this point I'm not sure how much I care about the costume not following my posture, and am not sure how fixable it is, anyway. It is very common to see long skirts not quite following the posture of the wearer (hence a need for longjohns. or pantaloons. or whatever....).
I don't know what makes something be an avatar shape/skin rather than a costume. Perhaps one day I'll be motivated to find out.

Have you looked at the 'Splo yet? the SL variation on the real-world Exploratorium science museum? Giant fun -- especially on Pi Day, March 14 at 1:59.
Thanks for the tip! I have been to the 'Splo. It was my very first in-world tourist destination, as I enjoyed the RL Exploratorium so much when we visited SF.
Lots of very excellent things to see, RL and SL.
I'll have to remember to check in on Pi Day!
Thanks!
