Here is a talk by Philip Rosedale, who invented Second Life.

I have only invested one AA battery worth of energy on this concept, compared to his blazing sun, but my reaction to SL (before having seen this video) is, as he states, that this is where we are going.

That's one reason I'm investing the time; I don't want to get left behind.....
