SL -- Gallery 33

.

This is on Rockcliffe.

Art Gallery.

I began this post by showing a photo, a 'shopped photo, and a photo taken in SL.

I rethought and decided it were the better part of respect to not post work that is ... static. Work that, once nicely captured in a digital image, could be propagated hither, thither, and yon as what's effectively an original.................

In any case, my point was -- it does not seem to me that photos (straight-out-of-camera, 'shopped, or made in SL) are leveraging the affordances of SL. [said she, proudly showing off her new vocabulary!]

This gallery had a lot of stuff that was. (Lacking animation, we have to make do with sets of stills.........)

These were 3d, in addition to whirly and kaleidoscope-y.

This one was not animated. Pics taken in SL are relatively small, and this is a detail, so I hope it's ok to show.

I like the effect of the layer of different texts, different colors, etc. I really like this sort of thing when people do collage, but can't seem to do it myself. I put down one layer and one "subject" and am quite convinced I'm done....... Layering may be something I admire but cannot *do*............

Another work by the same artist. I love this one....... (Yes, I'm shallow; you know I love this in part because I love the colors........) We are looking at it straight on. (Hope this "gallery view" is ok to show! Thinking about this -- I photograph the work of contemporary artists at quilt shows, and blog that. How is this different??? I want to behave correctly about this; hope I'm not stepping out of bounds. I always blog small-ish, low-quality images, so they could not be printed clearly bigger than an inch or two..............)

From the side, you can clearly see different layers...........

A person could make this in RL, but how much more trouble and who would have room to display it? Excellent that here in SL it's not expensive to make *or* house.....

Now here's something completely different. These giant creepy disembodied eyeballs knew I was there, and turned to look at me.

Here I am at the other end of the room. They have turned to stare at me here, too.

I'm sure the artist is pleased to have succeeded in creating this creepy *stared at* feeling.

See that nice layery thing at the other end of the hall?

This ball thing changed, too, but I didn't get an interesting pic of another of its looks.

Note pink feathery thing outside.

Avec moi, for scale.

I quite liked this. (And this time it's not because I'm partial to the color!)

Freedom Bird, I believe its name is. It fluttered around a circle, up and down........
