Is this exciting or what?
Some of the results of the electrician's labors on Monday.
You can't see that the outlet is actually grounded, but it is. Hooray.
In addition to bringing up shiny new (grounded!) electricity from the basement, she also brought up the phone and the cable.
The phone wire we had been using goes up the outside of the house. Time was, a windy day (with that wire slapping against the house) would cause multiple disconnects. Annoying. The windy-day-disconnect hasn't happened in years (wonder why not?) but having the wire outside the house just seems like a recipe for trouble. (Not to mention the vulnerability of that wire to ... house painters, say....)
The cable -- well, I won't tell you how the cable used to come upstairs. Suffice it to say that having a cool new jack in the wall for it is a large improvement.
Here you see our excellent new power outlet, with "all the computer stuff" plugged into it. (Well, all but our old printer, whose power cord won't reach, and which we hate, anyway, so if it fries, oh well.) Our excellent new phone plug. And our excellent new cable plug.
Huzzah.
Note the gnawed left side of my left slipper. Wilbur did that, many moons ago, when he was adjusting to the life of a collar dog. He was stray, for the first year of his life, and found it hard to give up the life of the open road.
Not that being a collar dog doesn't have some advantages. Like a dry place to sleep, and central heating, and couches, and regular (if way too small!) meals, and someone to skritch you (especially under the collar).....
