dog door

.

I forgot to mention in my previous that I also replaced the plastic over the "dog door" yesterday.

The screen door into the back yard was old and beat up, and we decided to cut a rectangle out of the corner so the dogs could go in and out (when the weather was warm enough that the main door could be open!).

To keep the flies out, we staple a length of heavy plastic at the top of the opening. It is heavier than a shower curtain, but still flexible, so the dogs just push through. It is stiff enough that it covers the opening well, and does a good job of excluding bugs.

The plastic was tattered after the winter, so I replaced it yesterday.

In contrast to the gate, that took 15 minutes (not including the trip to JoAnne's for the by-the-yard vinyl). Half a yard is enough for the length needed, so one half a yard of that wide vinyl will cover the opening several times.

Now I have a record of this, somewhere where I can probably find it again someday!
