walking home, April 28

.

Walking home from work on April 28.

I think this is two crabapples and a forsythia.

Another crabapple. We had an 80+ degree weekend last week, and everything just burst into bloom. A couple of weeks earlier than last year.

Thank goodness we're having more seasonal temps this week!

Bradford pear. I don't remember noticing how black the anthers are -- or is that the pollen........

We hung laundry out on April 18, and there was no shade at all from the maples that overhang the clotheslines. On the 25th there was noticeable shade, and as you see here, we are up to significant shade (if not nearly what we'll have in another couple of weeks).

Looking north on Fifth Ave toward the library.

Looking up at a Bradford pear.

Crabapple in front of the post office. Not quite open, but so near.........

Viburnum by our favorite Huron/Ashley/Washington/First parking lot.

I looooove viburnum. It has a nice spicy scent, and nice flower clusters. They don't last long, so it's important to stop and enjoy them while they're there.

An interesting sky, on the 28th........

Tulips.

Ranunculus! These were all right together. I don't remember them from last year, so I suspect they are a new addition to our walk home.

As you see, the lilacs have serious plans for opening soon.

I think of them as June-ish -- this is way early.

Varigated thistle. This is in someone's grass; I'm sure it's not some fancy new variety. Or at least not a cultivated one............ I wonder if the varigation is genetic, or environmental.

Last weekend's 80+ temps brought everything out in a rush. The magnolias went from buds to spent in less than a week. Alas.

I guess it's good that they didn't get zapped by frost, but I like it better when we get to enjoy them for a week or so rather than just a few days.

Our neighborhood was built in a rush immediately after WWII. Red maples were planted all up and down very shortly after the houses were built. They are showing their age.......

I LOVE SPRING!! What a beautiful bunch of pics!! I'm returning to this post when our weather turns crummy (as it always does in the Pac. NW)!

Thanks!

We are likely to get some crummy weather, too, over the next several weeks.

In fact, I would categorize the 80+ we had last weekend as crummy.....

Today is perfect -- sunny, blue, 70....
