On the 15th I took Buzz's leftover food, meds, supplement back to the vet. I hope someone else can use them.
People at the University of Missouri are doing research on degenerative myelopathy, which would have killed him if his kidneys hadn't given out first (or if the leukemia hadn't come back for him). I meant to get blood drawn and send it there so he could participate in the research, but I never did. They can also use postmortem tissue samples. I took all of his paperwork for the University of Missouri (which I'd filled out months ago) along, and if the vets could still help him be in the study, so be it.
Lots of people at the vet loved him. They were sad, too. I had thought that when I had to take him in for that last visit, it would be once last chance to see his friends, but it had been so long since we were in emergency that the Sunday-morning-five-AM-staff were strangers.
He was so uncomfortable and unhappy it probably wouldn't have made any difference to him, but it would have made some difference to me, to be amongst friends.....
(Our regular vet practice also does emergency, so going to emergency is the same building, if not the same staff..... This is very nice -- not only is it one mile from home, but they have my dogs' files on hand. And if I have to leave a dog overnight, he is already at his regular vet when the day shift comes in.)
When I got home, I noticed this bush. I haven't paid a lot of attention to it, but I think it has pale leaves. Blown out almost entirely by full sun in this otherwise-dark shot.
I never saw the squirrel until I got the pic up on "the big screen."

That is a fab photo. Just perfect.
I totally get the "to be among friends" thing. I have had it both ways, and with friends is my preference.
hugs and kisses xoxoxo
Thanks. That's what I thought when I saw the bush -- "I have to get that"........
I've never had vet-friends there. :-(
Of my three who have died, one picked her own time at home, and the other two ... both were strangers at the vet's office (two different practices...........).
Thanks for the support. I am stumbling along......
You will, indeed, stumble along. There just is no comfort.
It stinks.
I just hurts, hurts, hurts.
I am so sorry.
Thanks.
Eating lots of ice cream........
I'll be right over....~sounds of feet...~
"They" say that exercise makes you feel better.
I do not find this to be true, but ice cream..... Ice cream does make you feel better.
Or -- it makes me feel better, anyway.
We stopped on our way home from the airport on Saturday, and got me some B&J Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. My very fave is Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz, which is where Buzz got his name, as there was an idea to call him Coffee since the white on the back of his head and neck looked like cream going into black Coffee, but yelling "Coffee!" out the back door just ... didn't seem right. So instead, thinking of my favorite ice cream, he became Buzz.....
But you can't get that kind in the grocery around here (though the by-the-scoop store still had it the last time I was there), so I settle for the Heath bar crunch.....
I'll share. :-)
Thinking about yelling for him out the back door..........
He had figured out that if I called him and he came, he'd get a treat, but if he came without being called, he wouldn't. So it was quite common for him to sit out in the yard waiting to be called, so he could come running and get a treat. With a huge smile on his face, because he was playing a trick on me (making me give him a treat), in addition to the anticipation of the treat.
