The floor guy has done most of the sanding.
Tomorrow is the final sanding, and then he'll begin to put down the polyurethane.
He showed us a stain, but we're going to go with just the floor and the ... do we still call it varnish?
Anyway, it looks very different.

It's very vulnerable in this naked state. We are allowed to walk on it with socks (no shoes or bare feet), and Wilbur is not allowed to walk on it at all.
Luckily we can get from the kitchen to upstairs without touching the wood (but that may be a bit dicey carrying a dog -- you have to turn a 90-degree corner as you move forward and up onto the landing at the bottom of the stairs).
We will be going outside, across the patio, to get to to the family room.
I'm not sure exactly where I took the pic that showed the closeup of the damaged floor, but this next one is close to the same place...............

Pristine wood is very pretty stuff.
This guy advertises "no dust," and that's no lie. I mean NO dust. There are a few wood shavings scattered around, but no dust. Very impressive. This whole project is way too much of a pita already, without trying to tape off the rest of the house and then ending up doing a ton of cleaning anyway.............. Local, want a recommendation, just ask me. So far we are very pleased.
