the latest on Wilbur

.

Wibbs is still at the vet.

When I talked to his regular doc yesterday afternoon, she started with "He feels fine. He's eating, and his temp is normal." But while we were talking, someone brought her a note that his temp was rising as the fever-lowering drug he'd been given wore off.......

So they kept him overnight so they could monitor his temp and see what it did without chemical intervention.

One of the junior vets called me this morning, to say that it had gone up to 104.4 in the night, but was down to 103 at 9:15 this morning.

They are keeping him today, so they can continue to monitor his temp.

He is on cephalexin in addition to the doxycycline.

When I talked to the regular vet yesterday, she was really NOT going to say it was an infection. I said something that sounded like "so it's an infection?" and she said (more or less) "it's inflammation and we still have no idea what is causing it."

The young vet this morning was more "It's an infection but we don't know yet what is infected." Not sure how much that is a difference in judgement about what is going on or how much it is a change in what the regular doc would say as well........

They did another cbc, the results of which did NOT indicate septicemia. So that's good..............

Yesterday the regular vet said "He doesn't think there is anything wrong with him."

I'm sure that's true, with his fever down enough that he wasn't aching all over..................

So -- not sure where we're going from here, but the news could be a lot worse............

I hope he's okay, Vicki. Not knowing what is wrong is painful to us humans.

Thanks, Penni.

It is hard.

And having just been down that cancer path............... Really REALLY don't want to go there again.
