There is a roundhouse at Greenfield Village. The locomotives are restored and maintained here. We were told there are four full-time mechanics working on the locomotives.

This will go on the frame being worked on in the prev.
Love all the fastenings.........

I have no idea what the function of the wires might be.

Seriously big engine.

We were told that passenger engines had much bigger wheels, and so could go faster than freight trains which had smaller wheels (but accordingly more torque to turn those wheels to pull the much greater weight of a freight load). This is a passenger engine.

A very spiffy spit-polished engine.

You can go down some stairs and walk underneath the engine, looking up at the workings.... Very cool to see, and very cool that something of this size and age is still in working condition!
Another engine. Friends of ours used to own a cabin on Torch Lake. We visited the cabin many times.
Michigan's lower peninsula is mitten-shaped. If you look at the back of your left hand, Torch Lake is on the side of your ring finger just above the tip of your little finger. We remember it fondly........

This building is the foundry. There is lots of enormous rusty stuff in its yard.
It all looks very cool; I don't know if it is awaiting restoration, or........
One member of our party suggested this was a failed design for a bathysphere (no windows.........).

Somehow all of this very large rusty stuff gave me a very Ozymandian feeling..........
