More mise-en-scene failure. Sigh.
This is the 1700 saltbox. The siding boards' edges were overlapped, not butted. You can't see that from this pic, but trust me.
Inside this house a man was sharpening an axe in preparation for splitting wood, and a woman was weaving linsey-wolsey, a cloth with linen warp and woolen weft.

Herbage, drying.

An enormous vessel. I bet this is a yard across.
Love the rust with the green corrosion...........

Do you recognize this? I don't think I'd ever seen it before.
It's tobacco. I was told that this is wimpy cold-weather tobacco; that tobacco grown where it likes to grow is MUCH larger and more substantial. Some of the plants had flowers. Lots of flowers. We were too far away to look at them closely or get a whiff.

You can ride a train.

Goodness. Look at the pollution.

Somehow I don't think the water was full of these when that train was new.....

Covered bridge.

I liked both of these shots of the garden outside the boarding house, so I'll give you both.

This has been an absolutely gorgeous summer, and September 17 was no exception.
Wow, eh?

This was tall enough to function as a street light.
We decided it was one of those $100 ($150?) hand-crafted lightbulbs.

You can ride in a horse-drawn wagon.
I had never seen this sort of "garment" for the horses. I presume all the strings are to help keep the flies off. Those black horses I showed a couple of days ago also are wearing these.
