He had his last baytril on Saturday evening. Sunday he was perfect. Felt perfect. Pulled us all the way on an almost-a-mile walk.
Yesterday, not as good. Sorta quiet, sorta off by himself.... Lots of coughing yesterday. His congestion problem (which he's had for years) has him coughing sometimes, off and on, but yesterday was as bad a coughing day as he's ever had. At least.
Yesterday evening he started to shiver. He has shivered off and on his whole life, which I have always put down to him not having as much hair as the corgis. But since shivering is what he was doing with the fever....................
We took his temp, which was only 101 (low side of normal, for a dog), and hoped that he was "just shivering."
This morning he was stiff and sore, and not very interested in breakfast (but did eat). He was hot; I was sure he had a temp, but since I knew he had to go in, we didn't take it (knowing they would take it again anyway).
Sure enough. Temp 104.
The vet said that there are some organisms that need 6-8 weeks of antibiotics to get rid of them.....
So we're back on the baytril, and the dose has been raised -- 1.5 tabs rather than 1.
I gave him the first dose as soon as we got home from the vet about 10:30 this morning. He spent the afternoon on the family room couch (SO lucky I have enough vacation time that I can take it for something like this). He is doing a lot of coughing, and it isn't exactly the same coughing he's been doing...... More sort of wheezy sounding and less gaggy sounding.................
He wasn't all that interested in his dinner (with which he got his claritin and some mucinex, in the hope of opening up his lungs), but he did polish it off more quickly than his breakfast.
Fingers crossed........................................ I don't think he's been shivering. He was covered with a blanket on the couch this afternoon, and had lots of dreams, complete with growling and woofing, but I didn't see any shivering.
Please hope with me that this upped dose of antibiotics doesn't mess up his gut.
We'll continue his pumpkin and his yogurt, hoping for a continued calm and happy gut.........
