Hmmm.
A bunch of old dirty snow. On trash day.
Boring, at best.

But if we tighten our focus a bit, maybe it wasn't so boring on the 22nd.

I have always read that robins overwinter here, but this is, I think, the first time I've seen any in January. There were several; I saw at least three at once.
Cropped, lightened, saturated, posteredged.

This chickadee was right outside the bathroom window, but didn't sit still for long.

Junco. At lunch time there were lots of juncos on the patio (this gutter right above the patio).

Too bad it was right near one of the gutter's supports. Ah well.
Cropped, lightened, saturated, posteredged.

I saw a cardinal in the gutter, too, but by the time I got the camera, he was gone.
Woodpecker (almost in the middle of the pic). Downy?

I almost didn't bother putting him up, but you can see it's a bird, and a more interesting bird than your basic English sparrow........ That red patch is on the back of his head.

There were crows this morning. Five or six of them calling each other names and chasing each other around.
I saw an English sparrow, too.
That's seven different kinds of birds, from my windows, in one day.
We don't put out seed (or other food), but we don't weed, much, either, so Mother Nature's seeds are probably more plentiful in our yard than most places.
I like seeing the birds, and I like knowing their names..........

Oh me, too. And how I love Carolina Chickadees. How interesting that we get almost the exact same birds--even in your winter vs. ours (central Texas).
My back feeders have been filled with lovely Goldfinches of late as well. They'll be gone next month, so I enjoy them as I can.
That *is* interesting! I wouldn't have predicted it! When we were (briefly) in Florida last January, I didn't recognize any of the birds I saw (well, ok, I knew the sea gulls, but didn't know what kind of gull....).
We had a giant catnip on the edge of our patio last summer, and at the end of the summer we had a pair of goldfinches enjoying its seeds for several days in a row.
They are the only yellow bird we get; I always enjoy them when I see them, too.
I have been seeing more of them downtown in the last few years.
Yay. :-)
