today

.

We have not been impacted nearly as much by the arctic blast as a lot of people. We got a few inches of snow. It wasn't blowing when the snow fell, so the snow really wasn't anything to write home about.

We're not supposed to get anything out of the way in terms of cold, either. It's supposed to be 8 (F) tonight, with a high around 20 tomorrow. That's about what it was like last weekend.

One of the fine things about the great lakes is that they mitigate extremes of weather. We are often not as cold in winter nor as warm in summer as states directly west of us (whence our weather nearly always comes).

Pink sky on a snowy morning.

One of our neighbors kindly blew the snow off our front sidewalk. There isn't nearly enough snow to bother clearing the driveway (car can easily traverse the snowy drive). I went out with the shovel this afternoon and cleared a path from the public sidewalk up to the front door. I had hoped to do the same for the neighbor with the snowblower, as the public walk is generally a step down from the private walks, and hence not straightforward to blow off, but it had already been cleared. Ah well. I'll write a thank-you note.

After I was done with my paltry shoveling, Wibs and I went for a walk.

The camera marked the pic above as having been taken at 8:19 am. The one below was taken almost exactly eight hours later, at 4:13. It wasn't as dark out as the pic makes it seem, but I liked the atmosphere in the pic and didn't lighten it.

Now, about an hour later, it is as dark as the pic makes it look at 4:13.

Walkin' through the Bradford pear leaves on the sidewalk.

I had thought he was feeling the cold when we got around the block across the street, as he was slowing down and looking ... uncertain ... but when we got back in our yard he wouldn't come in the house. I think he thought I was going to go do something fun, without him, and he was intent on accompanying me............

After a bit, he gave up and came in. "Cold, schmold!" he says. If there's anything fun in the offing, he is THERE.
