Avert your eyes if gross descriptions of bodily functions are not your thing.....
So we came home from the vet yesterday afternoon, and he's been having bloody poop ever since. Going out every 2-3 hours, and needing 3-4 babywipes or paper towels worth of clean up each time. And dripping blood in between.
He couldn't settle, last night. I took him for a walk around the block. The flat block across the street is my nighttime choice, rather than our up-and-down block. The sidewalks were bare dry concrete, almost all the way around, and the snow covering the grass and reflecting off the clouds meant that it was very light, for just after midnight.........
After we got back (and cleaned him up), I slept in the kitchen with him. Well. "Slept".......
He had trouble settling, and shivered for a while after every trip out. He doesn't usually cling, but he wanted to sleep touching me. I was more rested this morning than I'd expected, but am a bit zombie-fied.......
He and I went back to the vet this morning, and saw our usual vet (same building, different vet during emergency). She checked him out and did a fecal, and says that
it is almost certainly "just colitis," and we'll treat him for that with metronidazole and diawin and bland food for a few days.
I know how to do that............... And even had the metronidazole and the diawin already................
Through it all he has felt pretty good. Head up, ears up, tail up (mostly). He doesn't feel 100%, but I'd say he feels at least 90%. Eager to go for a walk, out at the end of the leash. Eager to eat.
Hoping we can shut down the bloody bum asap.
And being grateful it wasn't anything worse.

Okay, Wilbur. Time to make life a little easier for your people! I hope you get this latest problem under control.
Thanks!
The vet was very reassuring that this happens all the time with dogs, and that often vets never do know why, but that it usually resolves with no problems.
This happened to Sophie once, years ago. It was Christmas Eve, and we were all going to my brother-in-law's. After we got there is when we had the bloody dog.
I called their vet, who was clearly at a party. He said she'd be fine and not to worry, and, sure enough, he was right. I took some samples to my vet when I got home, but she was clean for parasites. She didn't get any meds, and was her usual self after just a few days.
I am surely ready for more than a month in a row of No Health Issues!
I am starting to think that dogs are only healthy in short bursts. If at all....................
