I ran into an old neighbor in the library this morning.
Many moons ago there were a bunch of three year olds in our neighborhood. For a time there was a weekly playgroup that rotated from one house to another. It was a congenial group of parents, and the kids enjoyed playing with each other (and with each others toys).
This morning I caught up with David-with-the-orange-hair's mom. David is about to graduate from UM in mechanical engineering, which he is really enjoying and plans to extend in graduate school (also at UM).
Baby Becca (who is now running at the college level) is a sophomore at Calvin College, expecting to do foreign relations with a special interest in Africa. A year in South Africa, working on that, is a plan (or dream; I'm not sure....).
The true baby of the family, who was born after we'd all scattered in our various directions, is a junior at Pioneer. He's good at math, but is resisting engineering at UM (since dad and gramps did that, as well as big bro). He is also interested in the technical aspects of film -- special effects and post processing and such things.
They have a German exchange student this year, who is also a junior at Pioneer. They have enjoyed that experience, but are not thinking they will miss having a high school student once their youngest graduates.
It was nice to catch up!
