We had a very special supper. I had put in a request for goat cheese, and we decided to have custom-concocted sandwiches. Zingerman's makes rolls out of my current favorite bread dough ("rustic Italian" -- I think -- I'm embarrassed to say I know what it looks like and don't pay much attention to the name!). We also bought City Goat cheese and some Vanderose artisinal bacon.
Is your mouth watering?
At the grocery we got a red bell pepper, an avocado, a lemon, and an acorn squash.
The pepper was roasted, the rolls were sliced and toasted and rubbed with a garlic clove as for bruschetta.
Add the goat cheese, some of that bacon (having cooked it, of course), some of that pepper, some sun-dried tomato (which we already had), and some avocado slices (drizzled with lemon juice).....
YUM.
I'm not sure I've ever noticed enjoying so many different flavors in each bite of a sandwich.
First, the pepper and tomato, then the cheese, then the bacon, and then the garlic.....
Delicious.
The squash was seeded and cut into wedges, touched with maple syrup, olive oil, and a little salt and pepper, and roasted.
Also delicious.
Happy sigh.
Then for dessert we had chocolate cake. I'd gotten some Caillebaut chocolate instead of the grocery-store Baker's we usually use. I'm not sure I could tell the difference in the taste of the cake, but the frosting? OH yeah. Wow. The recipe we use (powdered sugar is good frosting, but with the good chocolate? Oooh. YUM.
Another happy sigh.
