.
Once upon a time, when I was a student at the U, I had a job filing cards in the University's depository catalog.
The depository catalog was not the catalog used by patrons. The depository catalog was the catalog of all the books in the world that the library did *not* have. We had the cards, so that a book were acquired at some point, the U would already have the cards.
In addition, I am, as you know, a huge fan of libraries.
I need some cards............... Just because...............
The University's libraries have always been open to the public. The stacks are open. Some of the older and rarer books are locked in cages, but most of the books are available for anyone to read in the library. You have to have a card to take them out, but anyone can go into the library and read nearly anything in the collection.
Very cool.
