April 22 -- downtown

.

I finally tore myself away from the Pink tree in the previous post.

Now we find ourselves downtown.

Vignette in Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams window. These are like indoor gazing balls, no?

I never "got" this sort of reflective stuff until I met "the Mirror Bean" in Chicago (July 2006 -- there are posts in the archives....)........

I saw the reflection of the sign post in the above, and moved, attempting to avoid it.

Laughing at myself -- didn't even notice the vehicle in this one, nor myownself....

Stepped into the Ann Arbor Art Association (or Center?). Apparently there is no gallery space on the ground floor any more. Shop on one side and ceramics studio on the other (very odd use [or shall we say abuse] of newly refurbished wooden floor, in my humble -- put it in the basement already!, and I say that as a former and still fond ceramist!).

This very interesting aggregate piece was in the shop.

I really like the variety of textures and values. I want to make something like this...... I don't know that I'll ever do clay again, but this makes me itch to Make Stuff..........

Kelly Jean Ohl.

(I'd say the longest piece is probably 18-20" long, and the width of the installation was 25-30"?)

The seasonal Invasion of the Tables has made Main Street vastly less pedestrian-friendly.

Alas.

I still walk there now, while the tables are mostly unoccupied, but it will soon be too congested to argue with and I will choose alternate routes.

Table and shadow.

That Kelly Jean Ohl piece is beautiful - very unique. I really like your table and shadow photo.

That's what I thought about that piece, too. I've seen ceramics that had that sort of "roll the slab on a texture" sort of texture, but had not seen that technique used in such a determined and varied and organized way......

Very inspiring.

I'm glad you like the table 'n' shadow. I liked it, too. The different shapes cut out of the table top made it more interesting.

I saw another table that was just a grid (not speaking to the roundness of the table at all) and thought it was much less interesting. So yay for table-buyers who pick the more-interesting ones! :-)
