changes

.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, one of our bedrooms was wallpapered with flowers.

In one of those interesting twists of fate, I began this post one day, and, the very next day, I found a scrap of that same wallpaper when cleaning out a closet in another room. So you get to enjoy the actual wallpaper that was there when we bought the house, rather than just imagining its regimented red, white, and blue-ness.

We stripped off those flowers, along with all the rest of the wallpaper in the house (every bedroom, both baths, the kitchen, and the entryway.....), and painted the room off-white, along with all the rest of the interior of the house.

In time, this was the baby's room.

As babies do, she turned into a kid. When the kid was five, she wanted a change.

The walls were painted pink. Really Pink. Really VERY Pink Indeed. (So Pink that the light coming out of the room at night was pink....)

She loved it.

Just before we painted the walls pink, I imitated something I'd seen in a book or a magazine, and did this starry ceiling. I cut (a LOT of) stars out of typing paper. Free-hand; they were all different.

I stuck them to the ceiling with plain water, and gently sponged blue paint over them (and the rest of the ceiling). After a bit, I went back with a pin and peeled the damp stars off. They dried, and I re-used them.....

When the child turned 10, she wanted another change.

It took two coats of primer to tame that Pink.

Two walls became chartreuse, and then the leaves were added (her idea and design).

It was a fun project.

Talk about bang for your buck -- this couldn't have been a dollar's worth of paint....

When she was 15, she thought of painting the room black. She was welcome to do that, as long as she was going to be the person who painted it back to something lighter.....

She decided to let it be.

Now she has moved back, for the time being, and the room has changed again.

The stars remain, but the leaves have gone. The walls are now this gorgeous green.

What a great post! Both for the designs and pics, which I love, but also for the chronology of the room/daughter.

Thanks. :-)

I need to stop by your place and see what you've accomplished with your new condo! :-)

That flowery paper was one of the easier ones to peel.

The easiest came off in sheets almost the full size that came off the roll!
