You are correct, this is edelweiss.

I saw it in Austria, many(many) moons ago.

Both the flowers and the plant were MUCH smaller, there. Less than half this size, and as I recall, the plants really hugged the ground (this one looks more like it tried to be a foot tall, but fell over, to me...).

The people who planted it were outside, the day after I took this pic, and I asked. The gardener confirmed it was edelweiss, and said it had been planted three years ago. She said it sorta sat there the first two years, but this year has burgeoned.
