The person who now lives at the far end of my old Ashley Street block has a wonderful garden. She clearly loves flowers, and has tons of them blooming all during the growing season. She also has vegetables. The next many pics are of her flowers.
Asiatic lily.
Daylily.
Poppies. I'm not sure I've ever seen this kind before.
Daylily.
It's awfully early for chrysanthemums......... Not sure what this is.
One daylily, upper left, the rest, Asiatic lilies.
Asiatic lily. With two ants. There are always ants on peonies. Not sure if I've ever seen ants on lilies before.........
Mise-en-scene for the fluffy ruffly poppies.
Ok, on up the hill, and one more little block, and we have arrived at the farmers' market.
Totally love these fish............. And the watermelon wedges, too. Amused by fish and santas intermingled.
There were ripe tomatoes at the market, but not on this table.
I believe there are at least four different tradescantias in this hanging basket.
Wondering how the colorless one can survive...........
The camera did not want to focus on that pale thing, but you can imagine it's like the others. Only different......
Hydrangea for sale at the market.
Daylily by a fenced in ramp up to a building.
Zinnias. Love zinnias.........
I didn't see the little bee-thingie until I got the pic up on "the big screen." Look at her pollen sacs (on her legs) -- lots of pollen in there!
Many hours later.....
Homemade pizza (homemade crust, too).
Sweet Italian sausage from the butcher inside the shops next to the farmers' market, red onion (sauted in what was left after the sausage was browned, roasted yellow bell and hot red and green peppers, Zingerman's handmade mozarella, fresh tomatoes.
Wow. It looks wonderful, and tasted even better. Yum, yum, yum.

Wow great pics again; food for the soul and food for the tummy too!
I hope you had a great 4th July. We celebrated Canadas 143 bd July 1I tried to see your banner at google.com but found out we get automatically transferred to google.ca and no banner there.
I believe your friend is growing the opium poppy but don't worry she won't get busted or anything; it takes acres of them to make the drug. I used to grow it also for the decorative value of the seed pods.
Ants on plants usually indicates theres aphids present. The aphids eat the flower or leaves and their excrement is like a sweet syrup and thats what the ants like.
If theres a huge amount and they're bothersome like the ones on my neighbours tree by our driveway then spraying with plain water helps to dilute the problem.
My car gets sticky with all that syrup every year at this time. And its such an ugly, diseased and deformed tree i wish they'd just get rid of it.
My goodness gracious - that pizza looks amazing!!!!!
Thanks, Lorraina!
A belated happy birthday to our sister, Canada!
The banner was a very cute red, white, and blue Rube Goldberg device that ended up with a rocket exploding into lots of stars. Apparently July 4 is Rube Goldberg's birthday, too. :-)
I had thought the "ordinary orange poppy" was the opium poppy -- I learn something new every day! Thank you. :-)
I didn't think of aphids. I think with peonies it's something sweet the plant produces. Peony buds almost always have ants on them, and I've never seen an aphid.
I didn't look for aphids on the lilies -- in fact, I didn't even see the ants until I saw the pic on "the big screen" at home.......... :-)
I agree with you about the neighbor's tree -- I'd wish it were gone, too!
Justina, it WAS amazing.
My better half and I used to make pizza, back in the day, but the crust was always doughy and we never cooked the onions in advance.....
This was flat out delicious. I wish I had some more right now!
:-)
