Aug. 14

.

Saturday errands. Cattail, and other weeds, just outside the parking lot at the Pittsfield branch of the library.

Stinking camera focused on the background rather than the cattail in every one of the five shots I took. Sigh.

Knowing how awful the heat and humidity are being for others, I'm doing my best to remind myself that we have been SO lucky that it hasn't been any worse, here, than it's been.

I am NOT a heat person (January? BRING IT!), and I'll leave it at that rather than moaning about our relatively Just Fine, Really, summer.

I have been surprised at how ... UN-hazy the sky is, for as humid as it is.....

And now for the "time to be amazed at Mother Nature" portion of the program.

Remember the pics I took on Aug. 7 of what I figured had to be pumpkin vines, despite the odd-to-me pale color of the fruits?

The same vines, seven (7) days later.

This is from Aug. 7. I should have put my toe near it, but it was about 6" long.

Same fruit, Aug. 14. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blows my mind that anything can grow at this rate.

Imagine what it might have done in Alaska, with the amount of daylight they get there, in summer!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing.........................

Cattails are another favorite! Don and I saw some yesterday and were talking about them, in fact. :) The growth on those "fruits" is astounding. Wow! Have you determined for sure that they're pumpkins?

Cattails are cool.........

I am not positive they are pumpkins, but don't know what else they might be. I suppose some other member of the squash family. I'll keep an eye out for the gardener at that household and inquire..............
