La Rochelle

.

Sorry for the gap in posting. Neither Firefox nor IE was happy with the "certificate" offered by the service which provides internet to our hotel in La Rochelle, so I was afraid to use the computer, until reassured by my charming and helpful colleagues at work that it would be ok to do so. Thank you, Steve and Laurie!

Our shift to La Rochelle was easy and pleasant. We made a friend on the train, who showed us all around her beautiful city this morning. We had a lovely time, and saw so many wonderful things we would never have seen without such a knowledgeable guide. Merci, Chantal!!!

She offered to drive us to see other things in the afternoon, but I was coming down with a headache and was afraid it could turn into a migraine. With great regret we said "Thank you very much, but we think I'd better rest."

After several quiet hours, resting in the hotel room, I felt better. We ate a supper of bread and yogurt and applesauce-with-rhubarb (which was very good indeed!) on the beach at sunset.

La Rochelle is a beautiful and interesting place, and we wish we had another day or two here to see more and more!

Next time, we hope........

Tomorrow we shift to Tours, in the Loire Valley -- chateaux country.......
