more lovely days in Bordeaux

.

Yesterday was another gorgeous day in Bordeaux, and today is shaping up to be yet another.

We got some triaging of photos done, did a spot of email-checking, and headed out. Most businesses in France are closed on Sunday, even in touristy areas..... The busy pedestrian-only shopping street at the end of our block was deserted, in comparison to Saturday.....

We did find a branch of the Paul chain which sells excellent bread which was open.

Our two baguettes were too hot to hold when we purchased them....

We found a shady bench at the big park we wandered through on the first day, and enjoyed our cool-enough-by-then bread.

Then we wandered toward the river, and headed south toward the Mirror. It is fun to see in every light, at every time of day...... It wouldn't surprise me to learn that a million pictures are taken there every single day.....

We watched for a good long time, checked out a few lunch-time offerings at some cafes that were open, and returned to the hotel to see which museum we wanted to visit.

We chose the Musee des Beaux Arts, and enjoyed their rather small collection. Unfortunately they had no postcards of our favorite painting (by a Bordeaux native neither of us had ever heard of). We'll see, when I get home and can see the pics on
"the big screen" if any of the ones I took of it are worth anything......

Then we wandered back towards the hotel (and the river), and had supper in a very nice cafe.

After supper, back to watch the Mirror some more.

We came back early, so we could relax and pack and get ready to head out to La Rochelle, where the weather is also predicted to be lovely..... :-)

Au revoir!

Lovely and perfect indeed. Hot bread -- always yummy -- and when the bread is very good .... aaahhh.

I am not talking very much about the food now, but it is being a large part of the experience, and will have MUCH more to say when we get home...... :-)

Bordeaux is one of the largest cities in France (5th or 6th, I think), so I am sure there are icky parts, but where we were was lovely. Lots of extravagant older buildings to enjoy, good food, nice parks, excellent public art, and all within easy walk of our hotel. We had a cab to and from the train station, but otherwise we walked everywhere. Your support and good thoughts much valued.
