sunflower blends

.

Some more blending.

Here's my original, lightened up a little, so you can see what's going on in the middle a bit better.

I copied the above, and stretched that layer so that only the middle of the flower showed.

All the rest of these are the result of the application of different "blending modes" to combine the two images above.

I've ordered them more or less as I prefer them.

"Color" blending mode. Don't like it, but there's some potential in the sparkly effect of the little flowers from the stretched version, out on the petals of the original.....

Color burn. Like the parts that aren't too dark to see anything.....

Hue. Like the petals, but the rest is boring.

Soft light. Now we're talking.

Overlay. Like this one even better than the above.

Difference. My fave. Like the different colors for the sparkly bits, and really like what's happening in the background......

I like the last one best, too. It sort of looks like butterfly wings.

It does, indeed.

I am trying to work at getting some sense of when I might want to use this layer-blending thing.

At present, I take two images and then try all the different modes to see what happens....... All pretty much random. No sense at all, yet, of what I am at all likely to like.....
